Our History...

Dated to around 1318, the central part of the building is still original, although a little different to 700 years ago! The original, beautiful, medieval trussed roof is still as it was.

The frontage was added during Edwardian times (hence the small-pane sash windows) and the original peg holes for the late-medieval overhang struts can still be seen, approx 1 metre in from the front street.

The rear of the building (housing our restaurant area) is a relatively modern extension and would orignally have been a much bigger courtyard with stables.

Its original use may have been as "5 shoppes with a house behynd", although the large, central fireplace/chimney (still present, though now used for seating) suggests some form of market hall or large, open room. Sometime in the 17th century the building became a hotel/bar and was then converted solely for use as a Public house in the 1980s.
