Who's already played this year?

- Already played
'Open Mic' Night
Don't forget our 'Open Mic' night EVERY Tuesday, from 9pm.
Hosted by Ross Kirk (for it is he), anyone is welcome, whether musician, singer or simply as part of the audience. Our open mic nights are as varied as can be; sometimes Ross on his own, sometimes a whole squad of musicans with some weird and wonderful instruments!
These are the acts we've already had playing with us, with some comments:
* 22/01/09 - Guy Johnson - Local, singer/songwriter.
This gig was in conjunction with a lot of work Guy is doing to promote his new album (and Guy was the first act to play after we took over the pub in 2007). It was a quiet night (mid-January in Wells!!) but Guy went down well. Check out Guy's own website here (opens in a new window)
* 29/01/09 - Drivin' Miss Crazy - A funky,dance-rock 3-piece
Fronted by two girls, they were exceptional, and very very original! We'll definitely be having them back in the summer (in fact, just booked them for August 27th ). Check them out here (opens a new window)
26/2/09 - Nancy Black - Exceptional voice matched with Indi-Rock
Nancy is going to be big after her debut on Glastonbury's Avalon Stage 2009. Although we were unusually quiet on the night she played here, that was more down to it being the end of February in these credit crunch times; she still went down exceptionally well! Check out her songs here (opens a new window)
26/3/09 - The Moondogs - Ben Kench and his band done another Beatles night
Once again, Ben & Co wowed the crowd and packed out the pub with their Beatles renditions. We'll probably put them on their own 'special' date next time, outside of the usual schedule, so check back our events page often.
30/4/09 - Jack By The Hedge - Really great 6-piece folk-rock
What a night! They played almost none-stop from 21.20 through to 00.45, and even then only came off because we had to drag them (music normally finished around midnight to give our neighbours a rest)! A great repertoire of music which had everyone tapping their feet and kept us busy all night. We'll definitely be booking them again sometime...
28/5/09 - Janey Summer - 4-piece rock band fronted by Janey
Janey really has got a 'rock voice' and if you like classic rock melodies you'll love her live. We had a relatively quiet night when she played (just one of those unexplained quiet nights in Wells and nothing to do with Janey herself), which is a shame, because the people who were here loved it. Watch out for her on the local scene. Check her out here (opens in a new window)
25/6/09 - Blues Devil - Well-known Blues band fronted by the ever-popular Chris Scott
We had to have at least one Blues band in the year to keep the die-hards happy so we might as well get the best! It was a quiet night, due to some small festival happening down the road in Pilton (!!) but Chris and his devils still wowed the audience. Check out Chris' website here (opens in a new window)
30/7/09 - Clarzee - 4-piece rock band
Made up of some musicians from other well-known local bands, they filled this spot left open when Blue Bullet had to cancel. Fronted with a young, female lead they strummed their way through a lot of well-known tunes. Check them out here (opens in a new window)
20/8/09 - The Moondogs - 5-piece Beatles tribute
Back yet again and it was a superb night. If you like a great sing-along to songs that everyone knows then don't miss next time they play...
27/8/09 - Drivin' Miss Crazy - (Recently changed back to "The Funkensteins)
Back again by popular demand; Female-fronted, very original, 3-piece funky, punk-rock band. They played for us in January and even though we now only have 12 main live-music slots for the year, we still got them back. You don't want to miss this band! Check them out here (opens in a new window)
24/9/09 - Julie Daske - Singer/songwriter with a 3-piece backing
Local performer from Glastonbury with an original talent (not your usual Glastonbury cystal worshipper)! Check her out here (opens in a new window.
29/10/09 - Lucy Stroud - Singer/Songwriter with her backing group "imaginary friends"
Local singer/songwriter with years of experience and lots of influences. She brought along her own original backing musicians for a more upbeat live rendition of her music.
26/11/09 - The Worried Men - Blues with a difference
A Bristol based band who've been together for longer than most of us have been alive! Various Blues, R&B and other stuff ... done properly, with some passion and entertainment! Check them out here (opens in a new window)
